Sanitation Barge Fire Prompts FDNY All Hands Response

Flames erupted on a Hudson River sanitation barge on Aug. 27 sending smoke billowing across the West Side Highway before the fire was extinguished following the arrival of an FDNY fire boat.
At 9:47 a.m., the FDNY received reports of a Pier 99 fire at West 59th Street and the Hudson River.
The subsequent all hands operating response included 21 units with 79 fire and EMS personnel who extinguished the fire in less than 90 minutes.
The fire was under control by 11:05 a.m., the FDNY reported.
The Department of Sanitation New York also responded to the incident.
The barge was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries to firefighters , sanitation workers or civilians.
