    Man Mugged in His Building’s Elevator

    A 46-year-old man told police that at 1am on Saturday, May 31, he was riding the elevator in his residential building at 865 Columbus Ave., between West 102nd and West 103rd streets, after returning from a party. Another man got on the elevator, turned around, and pointed an unknown object wrapped in a black plastic bag at the 46-year-old, saying, “I’m gonna need that chain off you.” The 46-year-old felt a hard object in the black bag and took off his chain, handing it over. The victim then asked the suspect, “Are we good?” The suspect got off the elevator and fled while the victim continued to his apartment’s floor. The stolen yellow gold chain with pendant was valued at $3,400.

    Deadbeat Bar Patron Arrested after Causing Property Damage

    An employee of a bar at 998 Amsterdam Ave., at West 109th Street, reported that at 2am on Friday, May 23, a 34-year-old man refused to pay his tab amounting to $63.15. The deadbeat patron then left the bar and kicked the establishment’s front glass, causing it to shatter. While being apprehended by police, the suspect also headbutted an officer, causing pain to the victim’s upper lip. Gerald Goytia was arrested and charged with assault. The damage to the front glass was estimated to exceed $250.

    Cops Nab Son Who Violated Court Order and Choked Father

    According to police, at 9:55pm on Sunday, May 25, a 64-year-old man was having a verbal dispute with his 33-year-old son inside 65 West 96th St., at Columbus Avenue. The son then placed both hands around his father’s neck and applied pressure, causing the senior to have difficulty breathing. The son also hit him in the back of the head. And when the father said he was going to call 911, the son grabbed the father’s cell phone and put it in his pocket. The father requested his phone back, but his son threw it on the floor. Police also said that the son had violated an order of protection. The father refused medical attention at the scene, and Jonathan Dsilva was arrested May 31 and charged with assault.

    Robbery Suspect Also Charged with Resisting Arrest

    Police reported that at 9:25am on Thursday, March 6, an officer tried to place a 41-year-old male robbery suspect in custody at the corner of Broadway and West 96th Street. The suspect refused to comply, tensing up and flailing his arms in an attempt to resist arrest. The suspect was brought to the ground, where he continued to resist, causing an officer to sustain a contusion to his left knee and lacerations to his right hand. The officer was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment, and James Andrews was arrested and charged with assault, theft, and other charges.

    Acquaintance Who Bit Man’s Arm Arrested

    A 70-year-old man claimed that at 7:50am on Saturday, May 31, a 36-year-old male acquaintance bit him on the right arm, causing severe lacerations, inside 330 West 95th St., near Riverside Drive. The victim complained of severe pain to his right arm and appeared to have missing skin, red soreness around the laceration, and possible disfigurement. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for further treatment and evaluation, and Christopher De Leon was arrested and charged with assault.
