Across New York City, a growing number of residents are discovering a wellness method that helps build bone strength, improve balance, and reduce joint and back pain—without spending hours in the gym or breaking a sweat. It’s called OsteoStrong, and it’s changing how people think about long-term health.

As we age, we naturally lose bone density and muscle mass, which can affect balance, mobility, and overall quality of life. For women especially, the risks are serious: more than 20% of women who suffer hip fractures die within a year from related complications.

OsteoStrong prevents these life-altering falls and broken bones through a science-backed process called osteogenic loading. By using the facility’s specialized machines, OsteoStrong members put controlled, brief pressure on their bones to trigger the body’s natural bone-building response.

“People say to us: ‘I feel stronger overall. I have more energy. My balance is better. My joint pain has decreased,” said Zeena Gupta, owner of OsteoStrong Upper West Side.

“That’s the goal—to help people stay active, mobile, and independent.”

Getting started

OsteoStrong isn’t a workout or physical therapy. It’s once-a-week, 10‑minute sessions that use specialized technology to help your body get stronger, starting with your bones.

When you walk into an OsteoStrong center, you’re greeted with a calm, clean space and a friendly coach. New members start with a complimentary consultation and a guided introduction to four specialized devices that target the lower body, upper body, core, and spine. The entire session takes only 10 minutes, once per week—no sweating.

“You’re never lifting a weight,” Gupta said. “Each person is safely pushing to their own personal level of resistance. The machines respond to you. Per Wolff’s Law, your brain recognizes this as a load on the bones and adapts by getting stronger.”

Sessions are one-on-one, led by a trained session coach who tracks your data and helps you progress at your own pace. Nutrition is also discussed and members report noticeable improvements in posture, strength, energy, balance, and reduced joint or back pain within the first few months.

Who it’s for — and why it works

OsteoStrong is for anyone who wants to feel stronger and move through life with more confidence. Many members in their 40s to 90s come in with concerns about osteoporosis, osteopenia, or balance issues. Others join to stay strong, prevent injury, and stay independent as they age.

“I saw that women’s health after 40 is very underserved. For women after menopause, the loss of bone density can be significant,” Gupta said. “But the body is resilient - we’ve seen members come in with low bone density and within two years, scan results show they are normal or almost normal. It’s so gratifying.”

Because OsteoStrong Upper West uses REMS (FDA-approved ultrasound scans) to measure bone density and the quality of the bone tissue, members are able to not just feel, but see the progress they are making.

Manhattanite Aimee Ross admits that she was skeptical at first when she started her membership. But she -- and her doctor -- have noticed that the weekly sessions are working.

“It seems to have done some good for my bone density,” Ross said. “After six months, two of the markers have improved and three stayed the same - my MD is very pleased.”

Science-backed results

OsteoStrong’s methods are based on research showing that triggering the body to resist force above a certain threshold can stimulate bone and muscle growth. While traditional weight-bearing exercise typically leads to a 1% annual bone density gain, OsteoStrong users show much more, all without medication or added physical strain:

• An average 7.34% increase in bone density in the spine and hip over one year

• Up to 14% gains in bone mineral density reported in 12 months

“We measure progress every step of the way,” Gupta said. “My mission/ vision/ purpose is to create the possibility of strength and vitality into your 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond!”
