    Police Nab Mugging Suspect Fleeing from Scene

    A 77-year-old woman told police that at 8:30am on Thursday, June 19, she was inside the West 96th Street Central Park West station trying to purchase a MetroCard when a 27-year-old male stranger approached and pushed her against a wall, causing a laceration on top of her head. The suspect then took her purse and fled from the station, heading northbound on Central Park West. A witness flagged down 24th Precinct officers and pointed out the fleeing suspect, whom the officers apprehended at West 100th Street, finding the victim’s purse in his book bag. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment, and Michael Heron was arrested and charged with robbery. The value of the property stolen and recovered came to $50.

    Man Stabbed by Harassing Stranger on Street

    According to police, at 8:45pm on Friday, June 20, a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend were walking at Broadway and West 107th Street when a 32-year-old male stranger, with no provocation, began screaming and walking toward the couple, harassing them. A physical altercation ensued, and the stranger stabbed the young boyfriend multiple times with a folding knife on his upper back, right upper leg and thigh and the left side of his stomach, causing physical injuries. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside by ambulance, and Asher J. Zwarenstein was arrested and charged with assault. The folding knife was recovered from his person at his arrest.

    Man’s Female Acquaintance Arrested in Can-Opener Assault

    A man living at 902 Amsterdam Ave. at West 104th Street reported that at 2:05pm on Tuesday, June 17, a 61-year-old female acquaintance struck him in the back of his head with a can opener, causing pain. The suspect then fled on foot heading northbound while the victim refused medical attention at the scene. Elizabeth Galarza was soon arrested and charged with assault. The victim said she had attacked him with no provocation.

    Middle-Aged Son Captured After Repeatedly Slugging Mother

    A 76-year-old woman filed a police report stating that at 6:50pm on Friday, June 27, her 48-year-old son had repeatedly punched her in the head with a closed fist inside her home at 50 W. 97th St. between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West. She suffered pain and bruising from the attack, and Luis Gonzalez was arrested and charged with assault.

    Senior Victimized in Bank Account Fraud Scam

    A 68-year-old man living on Riverside Drive claimed that at 4:32 p.m. on Monday, June 2, he got a call from someone saying they were with the Citibank Fraud Department, requesting his banking information. He was also asked to send his Citibank card to a specified address through the mail. The suspects later tried to use this card in an unknown location, and they used the victim’s bank account information to withdraw $44,000 from his account without his permission or authority. Citibank restored $30,000 to the victim’s account, but he still suffered the loss of $14,000.
