Two Men Take Cyclist’s Scooter in Riverside Park
A 43-year-old man told police that at 4:19 a.m. on Oct. 5, he was riding an electric scooter inside Riverside Park near Riverside Drive and West 103rd Street. One of two men, wearing a black hoodie and ski mask, approached from behind, confronted the scooter rider with his hand in the middle pocket of his hoodie, simulating a firearm, saying, “I have a gun.” The rider did not actually see the weapon, but then the second man approached, said something in Spanish, and pushed him. At this point the victim decided to abandon his scooter and fled the park. The suspects took the victim’s two-wheeler and fled the scene. The stolen scooter was an Apollo Pro 2023 model valued at $3,000.
Male Stranger Stabs Young Man on Street
According to police, at 3:20 p.m. on Sept. 22, a 20-year-old man had a physical altercation in front of 55 W. 100th St., at Manhattan Avenue, with a male stranger. The stranger then stabbed the young man in his back and neck with a switchblade knife, causing minor injuries. The suspect, who was dressed all in black, fled the scene on a black scooter. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside for treatment. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find his assailant.
Mother Reports Her Child’s Abusive Father
Police records show that at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 23 a woman called police from the Douglass Houses at 830 Amsterdam Ave., at West 101st Street, saying that her 5-year-old son’s father was beating him. She said the son had minor bruising and a welt on his foot after being hit with a belt. She said she was afraid for her son’s well-being and safety and added that the child’s father had threatened to hurt her as well. The woman said that every time she came home she found the 5-year-old crying after another beating from his father.
Police Seek Father Who Stabbed Son
A 29-year-old man living at the Douglass Houses at 865 Columbus Ave., at West 103rd Street, said that at 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 25, his grandmother asked his father to leave the apartment, but the father refused. The father then pulled a knife on his son and cut the back of the son’s left knee. The father then pushed his son down, causing a laceration on the son’s forehead. Police are currently seeking the father for further questioning.
Man’s Alleged Assailant Arrested
A 65-year-old man reported that at 12:24 p.m. on Oct. 2, he was standing on the street outside 202 W. 97th St., at Amsterdam Avenue, when he got into a verbal dispute with a 63-year-old male acquaintance. The acquaintance then pulled out some sort of sharp object and tried to stab the 65-year-old in the neck, saying, “I’m gonna kill you, old man!” Orellaana Hernando was soon arrested and charged with assault.
