Man ID’ed in Fatal Fall From Upper West Side Building
A 68 year-old man was found unresponsive in front of The Gloucester on W. 79th St., cops said. He had injuries consistent with a fall.
Police say that a man plummeted to his death from The Gloucester, an apartment building on W. 79th St., on the morning of August 4.
Cops are actively investigating why Thaddeus Paszek, 68, fell from the 18-story luxury building at around 9:30 a.m. that day; namely, they’re looking into whether he jumped himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving EMS at around 9:39 a.m. An autopsy by a medical examiner reportedly has yet to be undertaken, and the man’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
An anonymous tipster, who had witnessed the event, wrote to The Spirit that the man had landed in the driveway leading to the building’s underground garage. “I was eating at Nice Matin when I saw what appeared to me to be a covered body in the garage’s driveway,” they said. “There was a lot of tape around the area, a cop car – at least 2 cops (at least one of whom was I think a woman). There was a NYC van (which looked to me to be what they would move the body into) – and then after I was eating there a while I noticed 2 vehicles (SUVs?) from the Medical Examiner’s office.”
People working in the lobby of the building told The Spirit that were not supposed to comment on the event, but confirmed that it had happened. It is unclear if the man was living in the building.
