The Ansonia Independent Democrats held its annual fundraising gala, and presented its annualsmall business award to the Down & Quilt Shop on Amsterdam Ave between 85th and 86th streets.

Three years ago the club created the Mom & Pop Appreciation Award, and the first two recipients were Town Shop and Beacon Paint & Hardware. This year the club decided to change the name of this award in honor of Borough President Gale Brewer for her tireless advocacy and work on behalf of small businesses. So at the gala last night, the group surprised Brewer and announced that the award would now be known as the “Gale A. Brewer Mom & Pop Appreciation Award.”

Ansonia VP Ken Biberaj noted: “There is no one who has fought harder for our smaller businesses than Borough President Gale Brewer. Our club is grateful for her advocacy and commitment to the neighborhood and we know that future recipients of this award will be even more honored because it is named after Gale.”
