Council Member Helen Rosenthal has filed to run for New York City comptroller.
Rosenthal, who filed paperwork for the 2021 run with the city’s Campaign Finance Board, has represented the Upper West Side in the City Council since 2014 and won election to a second term last year. She is prohibited by term limits from again seeking reelection to the same post.
Rosenthal is the first candidate to file for a 2021 comptroller campaign.
City & State New York first reported the move.
Rosenthal will seek to succeed fellow Upper West Sider Scott Stringer in the office. Stringer was elected comptroller in 2013 and will also run up against term limits in 2021.
