    Charles Laurence's article about the Khyber Pass ("First Person," 10/17) was by far the best thing I've read regarding the political ramifications of this mess. Please, slap it on the Net and turn it into one of those things that everyone sends everywhere. (I'll do it if you like.) That way, even if most of us die of anthrax poisoning, maybe the children of whoever survives here won't make the same mistake next time. Let's be honorable enemies, even if they're not.

    Whose Muddled Thoughts?

    It is hard to comprehend anything about Michelangelo Signorile's "First Person" (10/17). His thought process on the peace movement is so muddled. To compare the peace movement during the Vietnam War to whatever exists today shows an ignorance that is simply incomprehensible. Especially offensive was his search for some jingoism to marshal his forces. I would suggest he return to protecting the American people in his usual fashion, i.e., keeping bathhouses open during the AIDS crisis and protecting adult males from being persecuted for sodomizing children.

    It's the Gays' Fault

    So Michelangelo Signorile wants the U.S. to change sides in the Arab-Israeli conflict because it will make the masses of Arabs happy ("First Person," 10/17). It will do no such thing, but maybe he has a point. Maybe we should side with the majority in every case. For instance, maybe we should ban gays from having bars and nightclubs in New York. The majority of the world does not approve of homosexuality. In fact, Muslim fundamentalists often cite America's tolerance for gays and liberated women in their hatred of us. So closi
