Harlem Bedlam: Slashing on West 117th Street, Shooting on West 124th

The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual depicted in the attached media, wanted in connection with slashing and shooting assaults that occurred within the confines of the 28th Precinct. Details are as follows:

It was reported to police that on Monday, June 8, 2026, at approximately 11:50 p.m., in front of 257 West 117th Street, a 28-year-old male victim was approached by an unidentified individual who displayed a sharp object and slashed him on the arm. The victim sustained a laceration and was transported by EMS to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition. The unidentified individual fled on foot eastbound towards 117th Street.

The sought individual is described as a male, dark complexion, muscular build, eyeglasses, and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a religious cap, green jacket, and black pants.

The address 257 West 117th Street, between Saint Nicholas and Eighth Avenues, is that of The Fitzgerald, a doorman condominium building originally built as a warehouse. In 1940 it was the well-known Timmins Storage Warehouse with large wall and neon signs advertising it as such. Its neighbor to the east then was the rear courtyard of St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church. After St. Thomas’s 2003 closure, this property was redeveloped into apartments. The church and its rectory buildings remain on the 118th Street side, the former serving as an event space called Harlem Parish, the latter a private residence.

Shooting at West 124th Street and Lenox Avenues

Cops are also asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual wanted in connection with a non-fatal shooting that occurred a few hours earlier, also within the confines of the 28 Precinct. Details are as follows:

It was reported to police that on Monday, June 8, 2026, at approximately 8:57 p.m., a 17-year-old male victim was walking in the vicinity of West 124th Street and Lenox Avenue when an unidentified individual brandished a firearm and began firing into a crowd, grazing the victim on the right side of his head.

The individual then fled northbound on foot towards Lenox Avenue. EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/ Harlem in stable condition.

The sought individual is described as a male. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, blue surgical (or COVID) mask, blue pants, black sneakers, carrying a black bookbag.

On the southeast corner of West 124th Street and Lenox Avenue stands the Harlem Village Academies , a charter school, while the northeast corner is home to Caribbean Starr, a popular Jamaican restaurant.
