Man Assaulted by Ax-Wielding Stranger
A 51-year-old man reported to police that at 10:06 p.m. on Monday, November 1, he was walking southbound with his wife on Broadway when a man approached him in front of 1849 Broadway at West 61st St. and said, “I don’t f*cking like you; I’ll f*cking kill you!” The suspect then pulled out an ax and slashed the victim on his left forearm, causing a deep laceration. The suspect next fled into the subway at West 60th St. and Broadway. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the fugitive. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital for treatment.
Senior Injured by Stray Bullet on West 71st St.
A 71-year-old man told police that at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, he was walking westbound on West 71st St. when he saw a group of people arguing in front of 210 West 71st St. near Broadway. He then heard a pop sound and felt a sharp pain in his lower right leg. It seems that he had been struck by a stray bullet.
Shopper’s Wallet Lifted
According to police, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, a 71-year-old man was shopping inside Gartner’s Hardware store at 167 West 72nd St. at Amsterdam Ave. when he noticed that his wallet was missing. He later checked with his credit card companies and found that unauthorized charges had been made on his cards. He told police that he had not felt anyone take his wallet from him. Other property in the stolen wallet included $250 cash, a New York State drivers license, vaccine card, MetroCard and Social Security card.
A 20-year-old male employee at the Victoria’s Secret store at 2333 Broadway at West 85th St. told police that at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, October 29, two men entered the location, removed perfumes and lotions from shelves - placing them in Fresh Direct bags - and then left the location, passing all points of sale without permission or authority. The suspects were last seen fleeing eastbound on West 85th St. on foot. Fortunately, no weapons or injuries were reported. The items stolen had a total value of $2,460.
A 42-year-old male employee inside the Marshalls store at 2182 Broadway between West 77th St. and West 78th St. reported that at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, a 40-year-old man entered the store and began to remove several coats on the main floor, placing them in a white-and-blue Marshalls bag. When a store loss prevention officer approached the suspect, the latter displayed a knife with an orange handle he pulled from his hoodie. The officer told him to drop the merchandise, but the suspect just displayed his knife again and then fled the location on a black scooter with no license plates, heading northbound on Broadway. No one was injured during the incident. The stolen items included three coats totaling $299.
