Another Area Resident Victimized in “Chinese Police” Phone Scam
A 25-year-old woman of Asian descent living on West 94th St. reported that at 2:16 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, she got a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer from China, alerting her that she was suspected of money laundering and if she didn’t send $200,000 to a particular bank account she would be extradited back to China. Unfortunately, she complied, wiring the full amount before realizing that she had been robbed in a phone scam that has been plaguing New York’s Asian community for some time now.
Police Arrest Acquaintance of Young Woman for Assault
A 21-year-old woman told police that at 5:35 p.m. on Friday, April 11, she was walking to her home at 120 West 94th St. between Amsterdam Ave. and Columbus Ave. when a 27-year-old female acquaintance looked at her and said, “What the f*ck you looking at?” The pair started arguing, and inside the lobby waiting for the elevator, the acquaintance grabbed the 21-year-old by her hair and hit her with a fist. The suspect then grabbed the back of the victim’s head and hit her face on the floor, causing two broken teeth. The victim also sustained light scratches on her face and bruises on her right middle finger. Tanasia Reddick was soon arrested and charged with assault.
Man Captured after Slashing Two Other Men in Homeless Shelter
Police reported that at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, two men, ages 40 and unknown, were slashed by a 35-year-old male acquaintance inside the homeless shelter at 316 Riverside Dr. at West 104th St. The assault caused lacerations to the left arms of both victims. Sudan McMillian was arrested and charged with assault.
Girlfriend Arrested for Assault on Boyfriend
A 27-year-old man living at 845 West End Ave. at West 101st St. reported that at 11:30 p.m. on Monday, April 21, his 38-year-old girlfriend hit him on the head with her cell phone, causing lacerations to the left side of his forehead. A physical altercation ensued, with both parties attacking each other. Delfina Tell was arrested and charged with assault.
Police Seek Three Suspects Who Mugged a Young Man in Public Houses
According to police, at 7:42 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, a 21-year-old man had entered 875 Columbus Ave. near West 103rd St. to visit an acquaintance. In the stairway between the second and third floors the young man was approached by three suspects of unspecified gender. The first suspect displayed a black firearm, pointed it at the victim and ordered, “Get the f*ck off my block!” Then the other two suspects hit the victim in the face with closed fists and snatched his phone. The victim sustained lacerations to his lip and complained of substantial pain to his jaw as well as bruised and bleeding gums. Police couldn’t find the suspects in the building, and an EMT team treated and released the victim. The stolen phone was an iPhone 13 valued at $500.
