Cops Release Photo of Suspect in Chelsea Murder; Detective Assaulted in Midtown

NYPD are asking the public’s assistance in determining the identity and whereabouts of a man sought in connection with the murder of a reveler at a high school graduation party in the Robert Fulton Houses NYCHA development. Details are as follows:

On June 4, at approximately 9:19 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress in front of 431 West 17th Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues, within the confines of the 10 Precinct/Public Service Area 4.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 21-year-old Raqiese Cohenmale, unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck. EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The Daily News reported that Cohen was among a crowd of revelers for a graduation party for Fulton Houses teens and was a resident of the building he was killed in front of.

The sought individual was last seen fleeing the location on foot, traveling eastbound on W. 18th Street towards 8th Avenue.

On Juily 9, NYPD issued both a surveillance photo and a brief video which shows the suspect walking agitatedly inside a subway station.

Ths suspect is described as a thinly-built male with a dark complexion, likely black, and was last seen wearing a blue sweatsuit.

Female Detective Slugged in Midtown Starbucks

An off-duty female NYPD Detective seeking morning sustenance got an extra lump on July 11, 2025, in a Starbucks location at 1411 6th Avenue, near 57th Street.

According to the New York Post, the 39-year-old was inside the coffee spot when she saw an apparent madman throwing food around. When the cop sought to intervene, the madman turned his violence on her, punching the off duty detective in the head. Surveillance video obtained by the Post shows the suspect fleeing south on 6th Ave.

At “approximately 7:45 a.m., police responded to a 911 call for an assault at West 57 Street and Avenue of the Americas, within the confines of the Midtown North Precinct. Upon arrival, it was reported to police that an unidentified individual punched a female victim in the head and fled the location on foot,” according to police. EMS responded and treated the victim on scene for minor injuries.

Ten minutes later, cops arrested 27-year-old Mohamed Riad for Assault on a Police Officer and Criminal Mischief charges.

Riad was arraigned that afternoon and pled not guilty. His bail was set at 1000.00 cash, 7000.00 insured bond 5000.00 partially secured surety bond, which he appears to have made. Riad is due back in New York Criminal Court on July 16.

Commenting on the incident on Instagram, the Detective’s Endowment Association Preside Scott Munro, observed “It’s no surprise to see an off-duty NYPD detective put themself in harm’s way to protect New Yorkers.”

“It’s what these courageous women and men do everyday for our city. This is why social workers couldn’t do policework. What would they have done with this maniac?”
