Cathedral of St. John the Divine Hosts Blessing of the Bicycles

The beloved Cathedral of St. John the Divine is hosting a unique ceremony on Saturday, May 6th—especially for cyclists.
The Very Reverend Patrick Malloy, Dean of the Cathedral, will officiate the ceremony. Reverend Malloy will sprinkle Holy Water on each bicycle, and will also offer a blessing to jumpstart a safe cycling season.
All are welcome at the ceremony, provided they “get around town on a bike, scooter, skates, unicycle, or other form of human-powered vehicle.” No RSVPs are needed.
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, famed for its beautiful yet unfinished facade and lovely grounds (which have historically been home to a group of peacocks), is over 125 years old. Construction began in 1892.
The cathedral is located at Amsterdam Avenue and 112th Street and can be reached by taking the 1, B, or C Train to the 110th Street / Cathedral Parkway station, as well as M4 or M104 buses to Broadway at 112th Street or the M11 to Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. The ceremony will take place from 9am to 10am.
