What can sometimes appears the storybook placidity of Amsterdam Avenue was recently jolted by a clumsily-executed early morning August 6th burglary spree striking three businesses between 85th and 74th Streets.
El Gallo Taqueria at 502 Amsterdam Ave. was hit first at around 6:20 a.m. when two men or ski or “shiesty” masks used a large rock to effect what larceny experts call a smash-and-grab. Details of what absconded with were not available at press time.
Shortly afterwards, the due used the method to break into Hummus Place and Frame Coffee at 305 Amsterdam Avenue. Though they failed to gain entry to the vegan kosher restaurant, they did get into the cofee shop and steal its cash register, which they soon dumped when they couldn’t get it open.
According to a commenter/witness on West Side Rag, which first reported the burglaries, the suspects are described as “2 skinny blk kids, wearing all black— To me, they looked like teenagers! smfh.”
3 Train Subway Shoving
Another day, it seems, another subway shoving incident. And if the frequency isn’t quite that high, reports come in often enough they can’t be seen as anomalies. They are, rather, an inherent part of the system and one to always be vigilant against, and flee if possible.
The latest West Side story occurred within the confines of the 28th Precinct/Transit District 3, and the NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who perpetrated the assault. Details are as follows:
It was reported to police that on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a 40-year-old male was on the southbound platform of the 125th Street subway station when an unidentified individual approached the victim and engaged him in a verbal dispute. The individual then pushed the victim onto the subway tracks and fled on a southbound 3 train to parts unknown.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was pulled back onto the platform by bystanders. EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a light skinned male of indeterminate ethnicity with black hair. He was last seen wearing black sweat pants; a black jacket with silver reflective tape on the upper back; what appears to be a black Polo shirt with a white horse; an d white New Balance sneakers. He was also carrying a black gym bag in one hand and a smart phone in the other.
