Five individuals from East Harlem were indicted by Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg for allegedly conspiring to possess firearms to commit nine shootings against rivals, including from several NYCHA developments. As alleged, one of the firearms was used in at least seven of the shootings.

The alleged conspiracy began in April 2024, with the shootings occurring between April 2024 and February 2025. One semi-automatic pistol and one revolver were recovered during the investigation.

All of the defendants are charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree. In total, the defendants are collectively charged with 36 counts, including various counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

“As alleged, these defendants conspired to arm themselves and unleash brazen violence across Harlem, including committing numerous shootings,” said D.A. Bragg

“This case is the embodiment of targeted, data-driven precision policing,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch.

As alleged in court documents and statements made on the record, the defendants were based in NYCHA’s Taft Houses in East Harlem and had rivals in several other NYCHA developments, including in Grant Houses, Johnson Houses, Saint Nicholas Houses, Lehman Houses, and King Towers, which are located throughout Harlem. To assert their status, the individuals conspired to possess firearms to commit acts of violence, including several shootings. In at least seven of the shootings, it is alleged that the same gun was fired.

The indictment alleges nine different shooting incidents involving the named defendants, allegedly acting in concert, with the allegations as follows:

On April 10, 2024, at approximately 4:36 p.m., Keywan Goode, 19, who was riding a scooter, went with Jalen Canty, 19, who was on foot and armed with a loaded firearm, to a building in NYCHA’s Grant Houses, near West 125th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Once in front of the building, Canty fired shots in the direction of the building.

On May 1, 2024, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Adrian Maysonet, 20, Goode and a co-conspirator entered the lobby of a building in Taft Houses, near East 112th Street and 5th Avenue. A few minutes later, Goode got into a physical altercation with an individual. Following the altercation, the defendants exited the building and a co-conspirator fired multiple shots.

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 8:49 p.m., David Woolridge, 19, Aiden Freeman, 19, Canty and Goode met in the lobby of a building in Taft Houses, near East 112th Street and Madison Avenue, accompanied by co-conspirators. At approximately 8:54 p.m., the defendants and co-conspirators left the building and traveled to a building in Johnson Houses, near East 112th Street and Park Avenue. A co-conspirator fired several shots outside of the building, including one that pierced a resident’s window.

Details on numerous other shootings were also provided each as harrowing and senseless as the next.
