Crime Blotter
Cypress Hills resident Jermaine James, 33, was arrested last weekend and faces a laundry list of felonies.
The frustrating thing is that at any point James could've simply stopped-making things easier on himself both legally and physically-but he didn't. Let's take a look at the incident, shall we? And while doing so, let's try and keep track of all those moments when James could've said, "OK, I'm in deep enough as it is."
At about 3:30 on a lovely weekend afternoon, a cop spotted James sitting on a stoop, allegedly smoking a marijuana joint (1). The officer approached James, snatched the joint away from him and attempted to place him under arrest. But James reportedly began fighting with the officer (2), shoving him and then running away (3).
According to reports, James then ran into the street and stopped a passing car, demanding that the driver get out (4). The driver, seeing that James was unarmed, refused to unlock the door, at which point James offered him cash to act as getaway man?Instead, the driver hit the gas.
James, seeing his predicament (and the fast-approaching cop), reportedly leapt onto the departing car's trunk (5), holding on for two blocks before rolling off the car onto the street.
Finding himself now surrounded by cops, James allegedly renewed the fight (6), swinging at the officers (7) and, reports say, trying to grab one of the officers' guns (8) before being subdued. Think about it-all he might've been facing is a misdemeanor and a fine for a joint.
