Idling AwayA man who left his car idling and unlocked on the far West Side to find that several items of his personal property were missing and presumed stolen. The 52-year-old told police that he went into 555 West 59th St. about 4:10 p.m. on August 23, and returned to his car about 10 minutes later only to find that a laptop, four pairs of cufflinks, toiletries, prescription medicines and other items together worth just over $3,000, as well as $400, were missing from the vehicle. Building security video captured a man opening the driver’s-side door, removing items and then fleeing westbound toward West End Avenue.
Bike Stolen from GarageAt 7:43 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22, a 57-year-old man entered the parking garage at 125 West End Ave. and left his bike unlocked on a bike rack. When he returned about 10 minutes later his bike was gone. He checked the facility’s security video and saw a man walk past security, remove the bike and leave the location, according to the police account. The stolen two-wheeler was a Giant Defy road bike valued at $2,000.
Banana AppealAt 3:40 p.m. on Friday, August 17, a man walked into the Banana Republic store at 1976 Broadway and took eleven pairs of gray denim jeans totaling $1,298, police said. He was last seen fleeing northbound on Broadway.
Gone at the GymYet another gym goer lost valuables secured in a locker. At 12 noon on Monday, August 20, a 78-year-old woman placed her book bag in a locker inside the JCC gym at 334 Amsterdam Ave. As she was leaving the facility about an hour later she discovered that various items were missing from the front pocket of her bag, she told police. The items stolen were an iPhone 8 valued at $900, a Citibank credit card and a home key.
