    Ex-Boyfriend Collared after Attacking Young Mother and Infant Daughter

    An 18-year-old female resident of a homeless shelter at 2720 Broadway near West 104th St. told police that at 5:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, her 33-year-old ex-boyfriend rushed inside the lobby of the building to attack her and her daughter. He knocked the infant’s stroller over and hit the mother with his tattoo equipment on her arm and head, causing redness and a laceration to her arm and a bump on the center of her head. The child was not injured. James Harris was arrested and charged with assault.

    Assault outside Liquor Store

    A 75-year-old man reported to police that at 9:39 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, he was walking north on Amsterdam Ave. toward a liquor store at 726 Amsterdam near West 96th St. when he saw a 38-year-old man banging on a glass window of the store. The younger man then unexpectedly struck the older man on the left side of his jaw with a closed fist. The victim had swelling and redness to his jaw but refused medical attention at the scene. George Wheaton was arrested and charged with assault.

    Arrest Made in Strangling Incident

    A 45-year-old woman told police that at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 6, she was having a verbal dispute with a 50-year-old man inside 153 Duke Ellington Blvd. near Amsterdam Ave. when the latter grabbed her by the throat and forcefully threw her against the wall. She later showed signs of bruising around her neck but had not lost consciousness during the assault. Mario Bauza was arrested on a charge of strangulation.

    Shoplifting Suspect Tries – and Fails – to Resist Arrest

    Police reported that at 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, a 23-year-old man entered the T.J. Maxx store at 808 Columbus Ave at West 100th St. and took items off a store shelf without permission or authority. When he was stopped by police, the suspect resisted arrest by flailing his arms and tried to head-butt the officer. Then, when the suspect was being loaded into a police vehicle, he tried to elbow an officer. Jordan Smith was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer. The items stolen included coats valued at $239.

    Bathroom Break-In

    A 69-year-old woman alleged that at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, she was going to use a bathroom inside 345 West 86th St. near Riverside Dr. when a 42-year-old female acquaintance pushed open the door and grabbed and pushed her, causing scratches to her neck and arm. Denise P. Pereira was arrested the following day on a charge of assault.
