Garb Grab

One bad guy apparently keeps fit by shoplifting, not weightlifting. At 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, a man entered the Athleta store at 216 Columbus Avenue and made off with women’s sporting apparel valued at $2,200, police said.

Car Broken Into

Stowing valuables in a parked car for even a short period of time can be risky, as one unlucky motorist discovered recently and then reported to police. At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, a 27-year-old woman parked her car outside 312 West 81st Street. When she returned to her vehicle just two hours later, she found that someone had broken one of the car’s windows and removed a number of her belongings, including a laptop valued at $1,100 along with various credit cards.

Burn of the Century

Century 21 really needs to post a centurion to guard their Broadway store. At 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, two 17-year-old women went into the popular department store at 1972 Broadway and stole $1,700 worth of clothing, including sneakers, police said.

Unfare

One woman took advantage of a cabbie recently. At 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, a 25-year-old female passenger grabbed a taxi driver’s wallet, containing credit cards and $100 cash, outside 241 Central Park West, before fleeing in an unknown direction, it was reported.

Eyewear Despair

One local eye doctor might need to take a closer look at the patients he sees. At 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, an 18-year-old woman visited an optometrist located at 213 West 79th Street and got away with three pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses totaling $1,050, according to police.
