driver mugged on riverside

At 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, a 43-year-old motorist was waved down and stopped by a person who approached his side window at Riverside Drive and West 100th Street asking him for money, police said. The driver reached into his glove box, but when he turned back he saw the pedestrian had lifted his shirt to reveal a black firearm in his waistband and was demanding the driver’s wallet. The driver handed over his wallet, which contained $600 cash and two debit cards. The man next told the driver to exit the vehicle, whereupon he handcuffed the unfortunate motorist and walked him over to the sidewalk. An accomplice then went into the driver’s vehicle, but the driver told police he didn’t know if anything had been removed from his car. Both suspects finally ran westbound toward the lower level of Riverside Drive.

Fruit Take

A fruit vendor must be hoping some thugs slip on a banana peel. At 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, a 60-year-old man was working behind a fruit stand at the corner of Columbus Avenue and West 90th Street when three or four men approached, pushed him to the ground, and took $215 in cash from his pockets before fleeing. Police searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find the creeps.

Bagged

At 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, a man smoking a marijuana cigarette outside 216 West 103rd St. was approached by police. Although the smoker threw away the joint, he was nevertheless apprehended. But when the officers tried to put the suspect into a patrol car, he resisted, kicking the car door, which slammed shut on an officer’s finger, police said. The same officer suffered a cut on his right hand while subduing the suspect, who was found to be holding three bags of marijuana. The suspect, who was not named, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment and the officer was treated at Lenox Hill Hospital.

man Choked on 89th

Just after midnight on Friday, June 9, a 56-year-old man was heading to a train station after finishing work when an unknown perpetrator came up behind him outside 105 West 89th St. and choked him until he was unconscious. The perpetrator then jumped on the victim from behind, shoving the victim’s face into the pavement. The victim was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment.

Three in fracas

Three local women had quite a dustup recently. At 9:09 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, a woman stabbed a 23-year-old woman multiple times with a glass object on Columbus Avenue between 108th and 109th Streets. The assailant also punched another woman in the face, and also took another woman’s cellphone. The first victim was taken to St. Luke’s for treatment.
